This figure does refer to how much something weighs. You might be carrying something large, or something that looks heavy. But in fact it is not heavy. If someone says ‘be careful, that looks heavy’, you can answer by saying, ‘it’s ok. This is as light as a feather’. A bird’s feather does not weigh much.
