This figure of speech means to take time to think about something and then making a decision. Someone may ask you if you are going to do something, or if it is ‘OK’ if they do something. Instead of giving a quick answer, you can say ‘Let me sleep on it, and I’ll tell you later.’ To sleep on it usually means to take a day or longer to decide.
