Big deal is a phrase that can be used to describe something that is important.  ‘I got a new job.  It pays well.  I think it’s a big deal.’  But, the phrase can also be negative and impolite:  You might say, ‘I think this is important’.  A person could answer impolitely, ‘Big deal’. (It means, ‘so what!’, or ‘I don’t care.’)
