It used to be a practice to keep one’s valuables hidden in a hollow wooden leg of a piece of furniture.  A hollow leg is not solid.  In casual conversation, if a person eats a lot of food, then in good humor you could say ‘you must have been born with a hollow leg’.  (It implies extra food is being hidden in the person’s ‘hollow’ leg for future use.)
