The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. (Psalm 111:10)

A person may understand this verse in different ways. The word fear can be understood either as ‘to be afraid’ of or ‘to be in awe of, or amazed by’. Either meaning has merit. It certainly is wise to be rightfully afraid of a God who has unlimited power; it is also wise to be amazed by God, who created everything.
