Waiting with bated breath.

The phrase is misspelled as ‘baited breath’.  ‘Bated’ is a word no longer used.  It probably is a shortened form of ‘abated’, which means to shorten or end.  A person ‘holds’ their breath when anxious or nervous.  You may hear or say something like this: I waited for the test results with bated breath.
