‘Don’t let it burn a hole in your pocket’, or, ‘it was burning a hole in his pocket’.  When a person has more money than they need, it is said they have ‘money to burn’.  Sometimes, when a person who usually doesn’t have any extra money, someone else could say something like what is here in red.  It is said many times in good humor, because it is known that the person will quickly spend the extra money.
