Meat that people are going to eat in America is inspected.  If it is good enough to eat, inspectors give the meat a stamp showing it is approved.  The expression ‘stamp of approval’ has become part of regular speech.  A completed project can receive a ‘figurative’ stamp of approval by an employer, parent, or friend.
